Salem Playhouse is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors with diverse experience in theater, nonprofit leadership, development, finance, historic preservation, community engagement, and the arts.

Our board includes founding members of our nonprofit alongside members of the former Olde Essex Stage Company board, all united by a shared commitment to preserving our historic home and building a vibrant future for the performing arts in Salem.

Upcoming Events

We're looking forward to an exciting 2026-2027 season at the Playhouse when we’ll host an immersive theatrical séance with previews beginning in September and the full production running throughout October.

Meanwhile, Murray Hall will feature an original Salem-specific attraction currently in development, giving audiences two distinct Salem experiences under one roof during the city's busiest season.

The upcoming 2027 season will include a variety of programming, including improv, more sea shanty sing-alongs, and a Moth Radio Hour-style storytelling event.

CPA Grant Supports Historic Window Restoration

Thanks to a $52,000 Community Preservation Act grant from the

City of Salem, work will soon begin to repair and restore seven historic windows overlooking our courtyard, including the center Palladian window. In partnership with our architect and Window Woman of New England, this project marks another major step in preserving our historic building and ensuring it continues to serve our community for generations to come.

Hamlet Coming in 2027

This summer’s Shakespeare in the Park series welcomed more than 800 audience members across six free performances. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the series such a success. Based on the results of our community survey, Hamlet will take center stage as our 2027 production.
