Mark Stevens

Treasurer

Mark Stevens is a finance professional with extensive experience in accounting, treasury management, financial systems, and process improvement. He currently serves as Controller at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and previously held finance leadership roles at the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM), including Associate Director of Finance and Senior Accountant. Earlier in his career, he spent more than a decade as Director of Cash Management at Au Bon Pain, where he oversaw cash operations, banking relationships, and large-scale financial reconciliations and systems initiatives. He has also held positions with OSRAM Sylvania and Papa Gino's/D'Angelo. A graduate of Southern New Hampshire University with a bachelor's degree in accounting, Mark has built his career at the intersection of finance, technology, and operations, with a particular interest in improving systems, streamlining processes, and fostering collaboration across organizations. Mark has long been involved in nonprofit and community organizations. His volunteer service has included serving as a trustee of Salem Academy Charter School and participating on numerous boards and committees at the First Universalist Society of Salem and First Church in Salem. A longtime member of the First Universalist Society, Mark was deeply involved in the life of the historic building at 211 Bridge Street and witnessed its evolution from a house of worship into a community-centered nonprofit organization. Following that transition, he became a founding board member of the 211 Bridge Street Corporation, the nonprofit now doing business as the Salem Playhouse. With a deep appreciation for both the building's history and the transformative power of the arts, Mark is committed to ensuring that the space continues to serve as a vibrant place for creativity, connection, and community for generations to come. Outside of work, Mark enjoys gardening, history, art, architecture, and spending time outdoors, especially near the water. He also notes, with some amusement, that with the exception of three years, he has always lived in a home from which he could see a cemetery.
